The biggest expectation of any candidate or officeholder is that he or she follows through on their commitments.
The expectation that exists between the voter, the candidate, and the potential officeholder is that relationships are measured by the trust and follow up that occurs through time. You can expect this to be the most important of expectations in our relationship.
Another level of expectation is that I will fight for every vote and I will fight to make your vote known in Congress. However, you may not agree with everything I have to say. Knowing this, we must find the common ground so that the issues that plague our district, our state and the country can begin to be solved.
We all have a relationship with our individual community and to a larger degree within the 9th congressional district. There is no doubt that many of the policy initiatives over the past years that have been supported by the incumbent have now been proven wrong. This is a result of three decades of politics, as usual, pandering and a one-sided view.
The barrier of these political realities can begin to be eliminated when a new breed of citizen participation and activism starts to drive the process of reform that now must come from Washington.
When the corridors of power in Washington get in the way of the needed progress within the district, it becomes harmful. When the corridors of power in Washington become the corridors for self-interest, then no matter what our expectations, nothing can be fulfilled.
If we establish expectations early on and agree on a direction, goals can be met and made. I want to eliminate the one-sided corridors of power in Washington so that policies and resources can be delivered at the local level within the district. I want to concentrate on how new corridors of commerce can be developed so that our district becomes one of the leading sources of commerce within the state and the nation. This is an expectation you can depend on.
Other levels of expectations can be satisfied when new ideas are explored. New sources of leverage must be developed to take advantage of all that is now dormant within the district. Development of new permanent job creation plans is the single most important concern in every corner of the 9th district.
We have to be able to take a top down, bottom up view and be creative with the intellectual, real estate, educational and talent base that already exists within the district. When we are able to apply 21st-century methodology with new technology platforms new opportunities will become the norm moving forward.
Your expectations of me can be simply summed up this way. With your help, we will identify and fight for the district’s needs. I will fight to bring a new corridor of commerce with new opportunities that will provide prosperity in the 21st century.
