Yoko Ono
b. 1933 Tokyo, Japan

Cut Piece 1964 and 2003
Film of performances

Vulnerability is powerfully revealed in this early performance as Yoko Ono’s garment is cut from her body, bit by bit, exposing her emotionally and physically. Presented with a new agenda, and now by an icon of strength, the insignificance of the mere garment is demonstrated in Yoko Ono’s statuesque demeanor as the dress is cut off once again, almost 35 years later.
