Fluxus returns to its original interactive spirit at Art Interactive with the
exhibition Do-It-Yourself Fluxus. Come and see, play, perform, create, and
experience some of the best-known works from this influential art movement.
This show features the art of celebrated artists George Brecht, Alison Knowles,
George Maciunas, Larry Miller, Yoko Ono, Takako Saito, Mieko Shiomi, and Ay-O.
True to Art Interactive's mission, the works in Do-It-Yourself Fluxus will not
be contained behind glass, ropes, or other barriers that all too often rob
Fluxus of its participatory, personal, and performative meaning. You'll be able
to experience Fluxus up-close-and-personal. Do-It-Yourself Fluxus not only relays the movement's imaginative beginnings from the early 1960s, but also conveys how it has continued to evolve and to shape how artists conceptualize the artistic process today. The exhibition features a new iteration of internationally acclaimed Fluxus artist Larry Miller's Flux Labyrinth, originally constructed in 1976. In the New England premier of another work, you will have the chance to put your stamp on the global map of Yoko Ono's "Imagine Peace," which was created in response to current world events and is featured at this year's Venice Biennale. Meanwhile, keep an eye out for our Flux Performers when you come and visit the gallery - they may give you their own spontaneous interpretation of the many Fluxus Event scores and games that will be on view. |
